Safeguarding & Understanding Reserves
Those closely involved cannot see as clearly as those outside.
Ng Kok Song claims he and Tharman have a better understanding of our reserves. The other two presidential hopefuls are not.
Yes. Both Ng and Tharman know the safeguarding of reserves and of course, how to grow the reserves.
This is the problem of independence.
The Chinese idiom,
“Dang ju zhe mi, pag guan zhe qing.”
{当局者迷,旁观者清。}
Perfectly explain why the elected presidency must be an independent person. He cannot be a player, playing together with the government. And most importantly, those closely involved cannot see clearly.
Tharman and Ng were players not long ago, directly involved in investing our reserves together with the government.
George Goh and Tan Kin Lian may not be that familiar with the operations of our reserves. However, as outsiders, they can see things clearly, objectively and independently.
Not to forget the Elected Presidency is an independent organ which has its own advisers and consultants.
