Lawrence Wong or Pritam Singh, who is right?
In a recent parliament debate, Lawrence Wong said ‘things can happen very quickly’ and ‘every election from now on will be about who forms the Government’.
The recent Thai election is a good example that the ruling military administration lost big. And the pre-election survey predicted the wrong winner.
Hence, Wong thinks there is a need to check the opposition, demanding them to provide workable and alternative policies, agendas for Singapore. However, Workers’ Party’s Pritnam Singh thinks his party has a long way to go. The medium-term goal is to occupy one-third of the parliament seats.
The Thai election shows things really can happen very quickly. Change of government can be very fast and unexpected.
But who is right, Wong or Singh, in the Singapore election?
Even there is unhappiness, the PAP government is still considered one of the best run administrations in the world. The youth movements and political participation are not as high as in Thailand. The desire for a big change is simply not here.
A scale of big change is not expected here. If and only if the PAP government is providing no hope to the young population, no care of Singaporeans, and continuing unaffordable policies, like housing, immigration, …
