Seaport, airport, and other big projects, are they relevant in the new world order?
Our seaport is expanding and upgrading as we expect more trade and containers. Terminal 5 is under construction as we expect more tourists and business travellers. So do other big projects. Uptrend. Upgrade. Plan ahead.
The assumption is clear: more people, more businesses, more services, and more financial activities will come to Singapore and perhaps, the population increases too.
Everything can change, especially considering the geopolitics, the new world order with less US influences.
Can our political elites do the right thing or repeat the same thing or follow the same pattern in the past?
We are too comfortable with US security protection and Chinese money in and out. We don’t want to side with anyone but want to do business with both. We have used American led international rules of law and are now getting more familiar with the Chinese system, be it BRICS, SCO, or the new development bank.
Lawrence Wong admits the future is very uncertain. Will our current political elites make the same smart forecasts or follow the footsteps of many western political elites and become jokers to the world.
